Anonymous: i saw you were asking for questions so heres one! how do you implement this 18th century pastel aesthetics into your daily life?

balletange:

I implement it through the way I decorate (I would happily do a room tour because it is too much to type out), but especially implement it through fashion!

Here is a little fashion guide 💕

  • Poet blouses with lace or a cravat at the collar (they can be in a pastel shade themselves or simply white. This provides a good start for an 18th century inspired outfit).
  • Embroidered or flashy coats in pastel colors. Think something you’d see as apart of a costume, those coats can be paired with the blouse, jeans, and something as simple as oxfords or heels while giving you the desired aesthetic.
  • Of course, I also suggest pastel colored button-up sweaters over a high collared poet blouse so you can still see the lacy collar, those together bring an interesting twist to any ensemble.
  • If you are feeling bold and don’t mind wearing an actual 18th century dress, the Chemise a la Reine is your best friend. They typically come with a big pastel ribbon tied in the back and are wonderful for summertime. I bought one myself and I’ve gotten multiple compliments when I wore it to an event paired with a bergère.
  • Speaking of! The bergère is a wonderful hat for a summer wardrobe, investing in one on Etsy is great, or for a more inspired look, buying a simple floppy straw hat and adding things like flowers, feathers, and bows is a great substitute.
  • Shoes from American Duchess are amazing to wear with anything that is styled with the 18th century in mind. I wear these dyed and decorated with baby pink embellishments with a white lace skirt, a pink sweater, and stockings as my go-to look.
  • Stockings are a wonderful investment to pair with a skirt or to peak from under a dress. I just adore these baby blue and baby pink ones, but the white ones can be dyed whatever pastel shade you want!
  • For hair, I style mine in big bouffant hairstyles that mimic the 18th century (while still being wearable), and I add fake flowers, whether I pin them in or by wearing a flower crow, as well as big bows.
  • For makeup, I wear pastel eyeshadow shades paired with bright red lips and heavily rouged cheeks. The fashionistas of the time loved their rouge.
  • Big gaudy rococo inspired jewelry is a great piece to add!
  • Lastly, be innovative. Read up on the trends and look at portraits from the time. They can be used as inspiration when shopping.
